Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado — Camping Trip #5
Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve — what a great place to visit and camp! We had a great time camping in the San Luis Valley. We stayed at Mosca Campground in the San Luis Valley, Colorado State Park. It was about 10 minutes from the Great Sand Dunes National Park and about 30 minutes from the historic town of Alamosa, Colorado. Truth be told, I was not over thrilled with the looks of the Mosca Campground…… just a bunch…
Potato Salad in an Instant (Pot)
Looking for a fast, easy way to make potato salad? Two words — Instant Pot or Pressure Cooker! I’ve had a pressure cooker my entire adult life. I inherited an old one from my grandmother. I only used it for beans and the occasional swiss steak. I don’t ever recall being told how to use it so it always held a bit of mystery. About 10 years ago, my parents decided I needed a new one and purchased one for me, complete with a manual. What a concept! I still used…
John Martin Reservoir — Camping Trip #4 – And Bents Old Fort
Welcome to the Southeastern side of Colorado in a June that turned hot quickly. John Martin Reservoir is a HUGE body of water with tons of birds and tons of sun. I really did enjoy hearing all of the calls of the birds that I was not familiar with and the reservoir is extremely popular with birders due to the diversity of species. There were lots of people with jet skis and boats. This is clearly an area for water toys! It hovered in the high 90’s, low 100’s while…
Camping Trip #3 — James M. Robb Campground at Colorado River State Park
The James M. Robb Campground is right along Interstate Highway 70, near Palisade, Colorado. We were wary of the highway’s proximity but it was only one of two sites still available to us late bookers. We were pleasantly surprised! It’s a lovely campground. Yes, occasionally you’d hear a truck but the highway noise was minimal. There is an active set of train tracks on the far side of the river and that first 4:00 am train startled us but it’s amazing how fast we didn’t hear the train anymore. The grounds…
Trip to Eleven Mile Reservoir!
We loved Eleven Mile Reservoir and look forward to returning! May 6-8, 2016 Beautiful!! And on the way home…… this happened. John did a great job of getting the truck and the rig stopped but who would ever think to look for the truck’s jack under the passenger seat!
