There always has to be a First RV Camping Trip…… Here’s the story of ours.
We bought her in a snow storm and Mother Nature, being the bitch that she is, is determined to make us test her in a snow storm.
We booked out April 15th and April 22nd to be our two, close to home with full hook up, test runs. And Mother Nature just laughed and laughed.
The weekend of April 8th was lovely with the entire weekend in the mid 70’s, bright Colorado sunshine.
The weekend of April 15th, the Denver metro area made national news with the amount of snow we received. We chose to cancel our plans because we wanted our first trip to be fun and happy and to have the opportunity to catch any issues with the camper and not have to lay down in the mud.
April 22nd found my parents visiting so we canceled those plans….. the entire weekend was gray but in the high 50’s and low 60’s.

And here we are to the weekend of April 29th…… what was supposed to be a fast moving storm with major snow but minor accumulation has turned into a four day rain/snow/snow/snow/wet snow event. We decided we were going anyway.
We loaded her up for the first time in a driving, dripping snowstorm.

We pulled into our camping spot which only has electricity and proceeded to make our Little House of Big our home….
John did a great job of leveling her…. in the mud….

The electric slideout didn’t, so we hand cranked it out.
We woke up to water in front of the refrigerator soaking a throw rug (thank goodness it was there or the carpet would have been ruined).

And you know when you have to combine jammies with boots that your day did not start the way you wanted it to…..

I washed my hair in the shower and noticed that the hose redirect is directing a bunch of water not into the hose but back onto the wall. John says we’ll just replace that, but I’m glad we noticed before someone took a long shower and resoaked the floor.
There will be no fire in this fire pit for us and this first RV camping trip…..

No dining at this picnic table….

But look at this gorgeous view!!

We woke up to our windows clouded up and us socked in with fog…. but the trailer was toasty warm.

And we had our first breakfast cooked using our propane stove in our camper! Farmer’s Breakfast, an old Girl Scout recipe from way back when in our new bowls and fresh coffee in our new mugs.

So what have we learned on our First RV Camping Trip?
It’s a good thing to take your rig out in inclement weather for the first time. While it has been a bit frustrating (and I am beyond grateful for John and his knowledge of all things fixable), being stuck inside created time for us to witness things not quite right. What a surprise it would have been to be come in to the trailer several months from now after a rain storm only to find the floor flooded and not know why.
And yet, I sit here in my jammie bottoms with slippers on in our trailer and I catch myself smiling. This has been a dream of ours for so long. To be in it now seems surreal. I feel very happy at this moment.
And now for our public service announcement:
When replacing the outside panels, double seal them.
And when you have an electric slide…… you need to have the battery in place for the electric motor to work. Ahem.
Just sayin’….
