Here’s an off the beaten road RV Checklist of things you’ll want to have when you’re out and about!
RV Checklist #1. Window washing equipment – They can be clean when you leave home but they may not be clean when you arrive! It’s a shame to have to look at the gorgeous scenery through mucky windows!
RV Checklist #2. Crunky clothes — disposable if you will — almost self explanatory. You’re going to get into situations where you will want clothes that can be discarded if need be. Whether it’s finding a mud hole and having a good time or needing to get under the rig to fix something, having a change of clothes that you can get gross in will be helpful!
RV Checklist #3. Rolls of quarters/small bills (for showers or laundry or snacks) — a lot of campgrounds have showers. A lot of our state parks have showers that run on quarters. We hadn’t thought about the need for quarters until we needed quarters.
RV Checklist #4. Waterless hand cleaner — whether it’s after you use the dumping station or after you change a flat tire, you’ll be glad to have some waterless hand cleaner.
RV Checklist #5. Butt wipes — if you’re not using a bunch of tp and not taking showers, well, you may want some other way of freshening up. (DO NOT put these into your black water tank! Even if they are septic safe, they do not dissolve fast enough.) We’ve had the conversation about how much RV toilet paper vs. how much water into the black tank. It’s a trade off. But having a way to feel clean without overdoing water or tp is nice.
RV Checklist #6. Solar water bag…. This solar heated water bag holds extra water. Hang it on a tree and wash your hands outside, or hang it over the toilet and wash your hands (adds water to the black tank instead of the grey). Ours is a 3 gallon bag. Three gallons can go a long way in washing your hands or feet! Or rinsing your dishes, or washing your hair, or …..
RV Checklist #7. Antihistamine — It’s not just for runny noses….. if someone has an allergic reaction, you’re going to be glad you had it!
RV Checklist #8. Antacids – While we’re in the medicine cabinet, don’t forget to stock some tummy soothers. Your system may get a little off kilter with a change of eating times, styles or even by trying out of some of the local cuisine.
RV Checklist #9. Leatherman Multi Tool — No RV Checklist should be complete without this swiss army knife on steroids. We put this in the camper on a whim and so far we’ve used it at least a half dozen times a day where we’re out. John keeps it in his pocket on trips so if he sees something on the rig that needs a quick tighten – window frames, covers, knobs, etc., he can take care of it on the spot so he does not forget. It comes out often to open packages with those tough to cut wire ties, to open a bottle, pull a random nail or file off a bur that catches clothing. Our recommendation: just get the best one you can afford.
RV Checklist #10. Cheap/inexpensive rubber boots — a pair for everyone. It’s not always going to be pleasant when you set up or tear down. Do yourself a favor, purchase a pair of rubber boots for everyone involved. They are quick to put on, protect your feet from the wet and easy to clean off. We picked them up and the very first weekend we were out, we were so glad we had them! So grab your boots and wade along the shore line!
