8 Things to Think About When You’re Looking To Buy an RV

Want to buy an RV?  Let’s talk…. I’m a thinker. I like to pre-think situations.  It’s a strength of mine. So when we started looking at trailers/RV’s, my mind went spinning, thinking through future situations and uses.  I’ll spare you some of the spinning, but here are some of my thoughts: How many people (and of what size) are going to sleep where in the RV?   I know this seems basic but John is very tall. A lot of the campers have very small main beds. We still like each other…

The Trip of Firsts: First RV Camping Trip

There always has to be a First RV Camping Trip……  Here’s the story of ours. We bought her in a snow storm and Mother Nature, being the bitch that she is, is determined to make us test her in a snow storm. We booked out April 15th and April 22nd to be our two, close to home with full hook up, test runs.  And Mother Nature just laughed and laughed. The weekend of April 8th was lovely with the entire weekend in the mid 70’s, bright Colorado sunshine. The weekend…

Recovering Banquet Cushions – The Good, The Bad, The Ugly and The Frustrating

So you think you can recover cushions…… so did I……. You’ve seen the pink interior. Here’s a close up of the eye pleasing fabric the manufacturer chose. Pretty, right?   Actually, I don’t think it’s too bad. It’s just that it was E-V-E-R-Y-W-H-E-R-E and not compatible with any other pattern. We want to down play the pink and that meant that this pattern needed to go. Let’s be honest. I’m a crafter, not a seamstress. But I’m a hard headed crafter. Somehow I believe that there’s not too many things…

Pretty In Pink (NOT!)

This is our 2005, 26 foot Dutchmen Travel Trailer — when we got it. The previous owners clearly took very good care of it.  The stove and the oven don’t even look like they were ever used.  If it weren’t for some wear and tear on the pass through and some wear on the wall paper, you wouldn’t think it had been used very much.            We know that the camper was lived in by a retired couple.  We have not seen evidence of upgrades or…

Cast Iron Cookware Clean Up

Cast Iron — To Use or Not to Use A long time ago, we accidentally discovered a way to effectively clean old cast iron cookware.  And when I say clean — I mean — remove ALL seasoning, back to the beginning kind of clean. You see, John was in the habit of storing things in the oven. I never store anything in the oven. I knew we had a long day out of errands and thought it would be a great idea to run the Clean Oven cycle on the self…

It all started with a dream….

Once upon a time, in a small house in a regular neighborhood, there lived a couple who had a dream.  Theirs was a dream that seemed impossible in the middle of raising a family, working two jobs, maintaining a house (and keeping up with the laundry) and other normal life responsibilities.  This couple had a dream of travelling around in a RV which would allow the man to pursue his love (and gift) of photography while feeding the woman’s love of history and places. This was our dream.  Our far,…

RV Window Valence Updates

Recovering our RV valences turned out to be a very worthwhile project, and nothing says “good times” like a little DIY project. And nothing screams DIY like owning an RV.  Like any home purchased, there is no lack of decorating items that need to go when the new owners move in. Being a trailer from 2005, it is astonishing how much of the interior felt like it was stuck in a time warp from another decade or two earlier. For us, the most noticeable things inside our RV that made it feel…

Installing LED Headlights

Removing and Replacing your Headlights Upgrading our tow vehicle to LED headlights was crazy easy. You can read more about why we chose these particular LED headlights in our post on the topic here.  Our two vehicle is a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500, so the steps for your vehicle may vary, but the idea will be pretty much the same across most vehicles.  Once the lights arrived from Amazon it was time to get busy. The first step was to remove the existing headlamp assemblies. These headlights have two torx…

Headlight Upgrade to LED

Installing the LED Headlight Upgrade was easy Setting up and enjoying that perfect spot is the goal, but first we have to get there safely. After buying our tow vehicle – a Dodge Ram 2500 Cummings Diesel, our first night-time drive revealed the need to upgrade the headlights. Melissa’s daily driver came factory equipped with LED (Light Emitting Diode) headlights. They are bright, crisp and provide amazing detail. One drive in the pickup with it’s incandescents and we were struggling to see better in the dark. The lights weren’t dim…
